This revenge story, collected in [[Swift To Chase (Book)]], features a hiking trip in [[Alaska]] where a man called [[Elmer]] plans to kill a man called Monroe but ends up getting killed by him instead. After being killed, Elmer comes back to life as some all-devouring and perhaps shape shifting beast. He ends up confronting his wife Ferris back home. He admits that his transformation must have been going during his lifetime as well, so perhaps he has been this creature all his life. His wife Ferris also turns out to be a non-human entity. They end up in some cosmic conflict with an unknown resolution. Elmer is an old schoolmate of recurring character [[Julie Vellum]], and they were lovers during one summer holiday. The prominent role of [[Transhumanism]] in this story could mean that it takes place in the 'other' universe - the one without the Children of Old Leech.
