Mysterium Tremendum is a story included in [[Occultation and Other Stories]].
The story takes place at various locations in [[Washington State]] such as Seattle, Tacoma and [[Olympia, WA]] and features four men hiking to the hidden Kalamov Dolmen up a trail on [[Mount Mystery]] on the [[Olympic Peninsula]]. The existence of the dolmen isn't public knowledge, but the men discover it accidentally when stumbling upon a book called the [[The Black Guide]] in a general goods story in Seattle before their hike.
Their copy of the Black Guide formerly belonged to Rose, a woman who found the book (after a years long search) in 2007 at a gift shop in Ellensburg, WA. A few months after she bought the book, Rose traveled with three friends to the tomb on Mount Mystery and was never heard from again. At the end of the story, she shows up and abducts or seduces one of the main characters to join her and (what we might safely assume to be) the [[Children of Old Leech]], placing this story in the [[Old Leech]] universe.
The Black Guide mentions [[Lake Crescent]] and the Lady of the Lake murders that once took place there. This is a direct reference to [[The Redfield Girls]], collected in [[The Beautiful Thing That Awaits Us All]] (or the other way around: that story is referencing this mention). The events of [[The Men from Porlock]] are also briefly mentioned in the story. The [[Mima Mounds]] are described in the Black Guide as well.
The Kalamov Dolmen and Kalamov Cavern were named after recurring character Dr. [[Boris Kalamov]], who is mentioned in [[The Croning]] and makes an appearance in The Men from Porlock.
At the end of the story, the story's protagonist Willem has moved across the US to the recurring city of Kingston in [[Upstate New York]].
