The story Hand of Glory is included in [[The Beautiful Thing That Awaits Us All]]. The story features mob enforcer [[Johnny Cope]] on a quest to find the occult artifact the [[Hand of Glory (Object)]]. One of the locations featured in the story is the [[The Broadsword (Building)]] in [[Olympia, WA|Olympia]] ([[Washington State]]). Magician [[Phil Wary]], referred to as Helios Augustus for the better part of the story, meets with Johnny. Helios Augustus and the The Broadsword also play a role in [[Jaws of Saturn]] and [[The Broadsword (Building)]] Johnny works for Mr. [[Arden]] and travels to [[Olde Towne]] where he comes across musician Dan [[Blackwood]], _"last scion of a venerable [[Ransom Hollow]] family renowned as hunters and furriers without peer"_ (The Beautiful Thing That Awaits Us All, p. ). He meets Dan Blackwood after watching a set by his band The Blackwood Boys at the speakeasy [[Satan's Bung]]. Dan Blackwood mentions some of the gruesome things that happen at Ransom Hollow: "The Hollow is far from peaceful. We do surely love our bloodlettin', make no mistake. Children go missin' from their beds and tender maidens are ravished by Black Bill of the Wood". (The Beautiful Thing That Awaits Us All, p. 90) [[Black Bill]] is a demonic character or entity who appears in multiple of Barron's stories under different names. Johnny pays a visit to [[Conrad Paxton]], son of [[Photography|photographer]] [[Eadweard Muybridge]]. The character Conrad mentions the phrase '[[Mysterium Tremendum]]' in the following passage: "No, word of what I'd really done could not be allowed to escape our circle. You see, for me, it had already begun. I was already on the path to enlightenment, seeker and sometimes keeper of Mysterium Tremendum et fascinans. Even at that tender age." (The Beautiful Thing That Awaits Us All, p. 97) Johnny also visits a group of women who might be witches. One of them is named Carling. The Satanist woman of [[Six Six Six]] is also named Carling, as is a movie character who appears in [[The One We Tell Bad Children]] and a black sorceress mentioned in the [[Antiquity]] story [[A Clutch]]. #Beautiful #Story
