Hallucigenia is a story collected in [[The Imago Sequence and Other Stories]]. The story takes place in and near [[Olympia, WA|Olympia]] ([[Washington State]]) and revolves around Wallace Smith and Helen Paxton. Wallace, the main character, hires a private investigator. The investigator, Lance Pride of the Pride Agency, is an old friend of his. Lance also appears in [[Parallax]]. The story features recurring character [[Dr. Green]], who also plays a part in - among other stories - [[Catch Hell]] and [[The Lagerstätte]]. One of the [[Arden]] family members, Skip, plays a prominent part in the story, alongside recurring character [[Randy Freeman]]. Hallucigenia is mainly part of the stories in the [[Transhumanism]] storyline alongside [[The Imago Sequence]], [[Bulldozer]] and [[The Light is the Darkness]]. But the inclusion of one of the Arden family members also ties it into the [[Old Leech]] universe, hinting towards some kind of [[Multiverse]]. The story also briefly mentions the name Mel [[Redfield]], which is one of the recurring family names in Barron's universe. The story briefly mentions the name 'Cortez'. This is probably [[The Imago Sequence]] protagonist Marvin Cortez. Helen might be related to [[Conrad Paxton]], the main antagonist of [[Hand of Glory (Story)]]. Both Wallace's and Helen's families seem to be some of the notable, old families featured in multiple of Barron's stories: "Paxton women were off-limits! The families, though distanced by geography, were intertwined, dating back to when Dalton Smith and George Paxton served as officers during WWII." (Hallucigenia) The name Smith pops up in [[The Croning]] as well, together with other familiar family names: "His presence among the proletariat Millers was often remarked upon as slumming; this whispered by his presumed equals. The Arden clan extant comprised the inner circle of local old money families, the crème de la crème, the very royalty of three counties, and included such luminaries as the Redfields, Rourkes, Wilsons and Smiths and in roughly descending order." (The Croning) The location [[Hanford Nuclear Reservation]] is briefly mentioned in the story and is said to be near the maximum security facility [[Station 3]]. The story briefly mentions the fantastical creatures known as Mimis, which are also mentioned in [[Uncoiling]] and [[Tiptoe]]. #Story #Imago
