Elmer D. is the main protagonist of [[the worms crawl in,]] and might be some kind of otherworldly being. Elmer goes on a hiking trip in [[Alaska]] where he plans to kill someone but ends up getting killed himself instead. After dying, he comes back to life as some all-devouring entity and ends up in a conflict with his (just as all-devouring and [[Transhumanism|transhuman]]) wife. During the story, Elmer mentions a fling he had with recurring character [[Julie Vellum]] back in their high school days. This took place in junior year, as stated by Julie herself in the story [[Andy Kaufman Creeping through the Trees]]. Elmer gets in a car crash that kills his father during his senior year.
