The woman also owns a dog. The story's protagonist is writing a book about an ornithologist who does in a valley in the mountains and gets eaten by birds. This sounds a lot like the movie The Ornithologist by [[Gil Finlay]], as described in [[American Remake Of A Japanese Ghost Story]].
